We had a busy weekend this weekend getting Wesley ready for the missions trip, celebrating my birthday and celebrating Micah's first 4th of July. As always I managed to stretch my birthday celebration out over several days. With Wesley leaving on Sunday (my real birthday), I declared Friday as my pretend birthday. That day, I treated myself to a mani and pedi. I also made us a special birthday breakfast, and we had dinner at my favorite steak place Outback. On Saturday, Wesley surprised me with cupcakes from Cami Cakes (the best cupcakes we've ever had!), and at midnight Wesley and Micah gave me a surprise gift -- two more crosses for my cross collection. On my actual birthday, Mom and Dad took me to Carrabbas after Wesley left for Alabama. I also got a special phone call from my sweet Hovey. He called me to sing "Happy Birthday to dear Mimi, Happy Birthday to dear Mimi." I just wished I could have recorded it for all of you to hear. He is such a sweet boy, and he melts my heart! It was a great birthday.

On Saturday, the 4th, we went to St. Augustine to watch fireworks. I wasn't quite sure how Micah would respond to the fireworks, but he did great. I was actually beginning to think that he might have hearing problems because he didn't seem to respond to any of the loud noises around us. The actual fireworks were far enough away from where we were sitting to not be loud, but the amateur fireworks around us were quite loud at times. It turns out he was just more interested in eating and napping. After he finished eating, I turned him around to see the fireworks so that he wouldn't sleep all the way through them. I really just wanted to see his reactions to them. He watched just like he was watching TV. During the finale, the amateurs behind us decided to do their own finale, and that caught Micah's attention. He quickly turned his head to see what was going on. What a relief!! My son can hear after all.
